Periodic Technical Inspection (MOT)

MOT Periodicity and Legislation

In accordance with art. III of Law no. 260/2017, the provisions of art. 2 para. (3) lit. b) and art. 2 para. (31), as amended by law, shall apply from 1 January 2018; the respective provisions refer to the periodicity of performing the periodic technical inspection (MOT) on cars (vehicles intended for the transport of persons who have, outside the driver’s seat, at most 8 seats).

for cars at least 12 years old, the interval for performing MOT is reduced from 2 years to 1 year (except for vehicles of historical interest);
for new cars, the interval for performing MOT increases from 2 years to 3 years;
for passenger cars, the date of the next periodic technical inspection referred to in the Annex to the vehicle registration certificate shall remain valid.

In order to carry out the MOT, the following documents are required:

  • Vehicle Identity Card (CIV) or copy of the original for leased vehicles;
    registration certificate (TALON)
    the certificate of approval, only in the case of TAXI and / or SCHOOL cars
    ID card of the person presenting a vehicle to MOT
